The European Nursery stock Association (ENA) is very concerned about developments relating to Phytophthora ramorum disease. In most European countries the disease is already found in very small numbers on nurseries and in public areas. Inspections are taking place and for Rhododendron and Viburnum a plant passport is needed. For the European nursery stock sector it is very important that production and trading of plants that host this disease can continue. It is therefore vital that all infected plants are destroyed and the ENA intends to decide a unified policy on the control of the disease throughout the EU and further afield. Last year ENA installed a working group to make the standard European Plant Name List. The working group is making good progress and will launch a website later this year. In addition to this working group ENA decided to form a new working group that will work on an article code system to make it possible to communicate by computer. Peter Schjøtt, chairman of the Danish Nurserymen Association, currently vice-president will take over the presidency next summer from Mr. Willem Sanders from the Netherlands.
