The 2004 Pack Trials of Kieft Seeds took place on May 3-7 in
Holland. This year's colour is said to be Pink and many new introductions follow
this trend. The new compact Lavatera 'Twins Hot Pink', for container
and garden use, won a Fleuroselect Gold Medal in 2002. 'Valentine' is the name
of a unique pink colour combination in F1 Viola. The 3 cm diameter
flowers are cherry pink through to light pink with a white face and starry eye,
depending on temperature and light level. This variety has small leaves, it
is very compact and frost tolerant. Three new colours are added to the Dianthus
barbatus 'Noverna'® series. 'Noverna'® Pink, White and Violet.
The Purple variety won a Fleuroselect Gold Medal. The series is grown as an
annual and no vernalisation is required. Plants are ideal for patio containers
and garden borders with a long season of flowering. Lavandula
'Spanish Eyes' is an annual variety with attractive fragrance and long
lasting flowers with excellent weather-tolerance. Verbena
canadensis 'Toronto Silver Pink' is a new colour and the
variety is mildew tolerant. Celosia spicata 'Kosmo Pink' is the
third colour to the Kosmo series which is the first genetically dwarf type bred
for indoor pot production. Plants produce an elegant central spike, surrounded
by smaller spikes and havea long shelf life as pot and patio plant. It can be
grown all-year-round and is suitable for sales over the Christmas period. Vegetatively
propagated crops will also be on display at the Packtrials. Agastache
'Acapulco' Orange, Rose and Salmon/Pink Bicolor and new additions
to the Calibrachoa 'Spring Fling', Other developments include
Fuchsia 'Diva'® and 'Windchime'® and multiflora
Dahlia 'Dahlstar'® and 'Amazon'. Some of the breeding
