F-Clean® is a strong self-cleaning plastic greenhouse film made from ETFE (Ethylene Tetra Fluoro Ethylene Co-Polymer). It is said to let in 3% more light than glass, it is 1% the weight of glass and has a long life expectancy of 10-15 years. It also lets through ultra-violet light which is said to result in stronger growth, better colour, and lower incidence of disease. UV light also stimulates the release of volatile chemicals by aromatic plants. It also has self-cleaning properties. F-Clean®, developed by Asahi Glass, is also available in a diffuse version to prevent crops from being scortched in the summer months, provides greater light transmission on dull and cloudy days and better overall diffusion of light throughout the greenhouse. The covering is also resistant o hail. F-Clean® was selected for use in the huge biomes of the Eden Project in Cornwall, England.
