Four years ago the new series of large flowered pot roses, bred by Rosa Eskelund, was introduced for the first time. She founded the Company Roses Forever® and introduced the first of the series to the market in 2000. The varieties have been and are being bred according to market trends in terms of form and colour of the flowers and this has contributed to their international success and the relatively high prices being realized for these pot roses. In addition, some of the varieties have a strong perfume. The plants are easy to grow and the different varieties provide a large range of colour. The breeding program uses a select range of garden and pot varieties and some wild species that are disease resistant.

Roses Forever® are produced under license in most European countries and Japan and the series has just been approved for production in the USA. Growers wishing to produce finished or semi-finished plants or cuttings are required to enter into a licence agreement which is based on each individual producer. Producers of Roses Forever® varieties receive written cultivation instructions covering each individual variety and advisory service,  is available on request. Growers are also welcome to visit the nurseries Rosa A/S and Rosalina A/S where the series of pot rose is tested and produced.

New on the market for production in 10.5cm pots are:  Portofino Forever® (bronze 5cm flower), Riga Forever® (light rose-pink 3cm) and Monte Carlo Forever® (light rose 7.5cm). New for 12 cm pots are: Copenhagen Forever® (pink 7cm flower) and Napoli Forever® (bronze 6.5cm) and for 15cm pots: Malaga Forever® (pink 9cm) and Sevilla Forever® (yellow 8.5cm).  The most recent introduction is Alsace Forever® with 5.5cm flowers of a strong salmon colour.

These pot roses have been specially developed for the home, but they are very hardy and suited for planting outdoors in tubs or beds. To date, the varieties ‘Monte’ and ‘Pink Monte’ Rosa Forever have shown the longest shelf-life in the distribution chain.
