Quick tying of foliage and digging up of Nurserystock plants

To tie-in the foliage of a tall trees (up to 5m) ready for transport normally takes two people 10-15 minutes. Using the new device HMC28 dveloped by Holmac, the tying takes btween 30 seconds and one minute. The device is able to adjust the distance between the ties and the tension applied and by lateral movement of the device it can be used on rows where the trees are planted very close to one another. The device fits onto the front of the nornal Holmac caterpillar unit and the ring that effects the tie is moved vertically up the foliage of the tree rather like a fork-lift. A similar tying unit, the LP 750 for heights up to 7.5m) was also on display at the September edition of Flormart-Miflor 2004 by Pazzaglia Spa. The design and manufacture of this type of tying unit originated in the USA and has been improved and usefully adapted to the Holmac and Pazzaglia caterpillar units and the utilization made more flexible in the process.

The Holmac and Pazzaglia caterpillar units equiped to dig-up the root-ball of trees are already well known. According to the extension and size of blade they are available to dig up root-balls up to a diameter of 140cm (Model HZC37 in the case of Holmac). Pazzaglia had on display a 74 horse power caterpillar unit and attachments capable of working a root-ball with larger blades (up to 180cm diameter), Model FZ180. The depth of the ‘scoop’ or dig of the Holmac and Pazzaglia machines is not restricted to half the diameter of the root-ball as explained Ing. Christian Schickert, export manager for Pazzaglia. It can be varied according to the angle imposed on the blade (for example a root ball of a diameter 70cm can be dug-out with a depth of 90cm). For further information contact Holmac.
