Whetmans Pinks introduced 6 new varieties of Dianthus for 2005. Very appealing and singular is ‘Mistic Star’ with very dark maroon petals centrally splasheed white. A good garden variety is ‘Lady Madonna with has a double white flower with ruby eye and fringed petals and a clove scent. The Company has an agreement with Barbaret & Blanc and they work through the breeding agent DSG, Berlin. The Company sells rooted cuttings direct into Southern France and is tentatively looking for other licenced propagators. Grower members are already planning their production schedules to gain full advantage of the promotional campaign, called 'Think Pinks', in the spring of 2005.
