Horticultural “Silicon Valley” in China
 
H&H Horticulture (Zhuhai) Trade Centre is a large scale Sino-Dutch Joint Venture Project located at Zhuhai on the Pearl delta near Macau, China. The Dutch partner in this project is Van der Kamp International B.V. The total land area to be developed under the project is 550ha that will include includes more than ten sub-projects as nurseries, trading hall, cold storage, training center, technological pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, packaging center, a floral essence and pigment manufacturing plant and flower research laboratory.

The stated aim of the project is to be transporting 2,000 standard 20’ containers of flowers each day within five years from start up, mainly to countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Korea and regions in South East Asia. Three years later the daily harvesting of flowers on the Zhuhai base is estimated at 15 million stems. When fully operational the floriculture base will employ more than 10.000 people. Total investment in the project is planned to reach US$ 157 million. Work on the project will start at the end of 2004 and when fully operation will have a great influence of the market not only in Asia, but also to the world's trading in flowers and other horticultural products. The construction of a bridge linking Hong Kong with Zhuhai will also have an important impact on the project.
