Cissus rotundifolia is very distinct from the better known Cissus rhombifolius which is a climbing plant with deeply lobed and veined leaves. While the veining is still visible in Cissus rotundifolia, the shiny leaves are almost perfectly circular. Another striking feature is its dark green colour and leather-like appearance. Cissus also produces delicate tendrils that allow the plant to climb easily up a stick or support. This plant, originally from East Africa, produces sugar crystals on the undersides of its leaves; a feature it has in common with several other houseplants. Cissus rotundifolia (VBN code 20978) needs very little care and the waxy coating on the leaves means that the plant need less water. Cissus will thrive at room temperature in a light or darker spot. The plant has been on sale at the Dutch flower and plant auctions since June 2004. Flower Council, Fax 0031 71 5659555, E-mail: info@flowercouncil.org www.flowercouncil.org |
