Flora Expo 2005, Gateway to the Indian and South Asia market

The first EXPO of its kind in South Asia on such a grand scale will be held at Bangalore, INDIA, 1-3 July 2005. Supporting this international floriculture trade exhibition and conference is APEDA (National Government Export Development Authority for Agricultural and Processed Food Products) and the national horticulture board. The event will be hosted by the Department of Horticulture, Regional Government of Karnataka. Floriculture is now labelled a priority sector for development by the Indian Government and very fast growth is expected.

With over 200 million mid-upper income population, India is the world’s 2nd largest consumer base. Flower consumption is growing at 40% per year. Numerous festivals coupled with increasiung meodernization and per capita income, make India a floricultural super-power of the future. A huge domestic market already exists in the form of floral garlands and carpets. Added to this is the conventional flower and gardening retail and modern retail outlets in the form of supermarkets, chain stores and interior design shops. Buyers are expected from many countries outside India, including: Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Persian Gulf and Arabaian countries.

India can be an important import market for exporters of seeds, bulbs, young plants, production equipment and consumables, phytochemicals, and garden related goods from around the world. Industry professionals in India are constantly seeking new products and technology to improve production and cost effectiveness from production to distribution logistics and retail.

In parallel with the Expo there will take place: international seminar on commercial floriculture; buyer – seller meetings (Indian exporters/foreign importers); workshop on post-harvest handling of cut-flowers for export; workshop on greenhouse management; workshop on floral arrangements; summit on florist franchising and networking.
