Hot Chocolate

The variety ‘Hot Chocolate’ (Wekpaltlez) presented on the stand of CK Jones was awarded the accolade ‘Novelty Rose 2006’ at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The variety was first introduced by Weeks Roses, USA, in 2003 and was winner of an AARS award (All-America Rose Selections) in the same year. It was bred in the USA by Tom Carruth from a cross between the varieties ‘Playboy and Altissimo’ with ‘Livin Easy’ under the trademark is Hot Cocoa™. Eye catching pointed buds of a novel deep rust colour open out with cinnamon brown petals with a red-purple glow. The variety produces large 8-10cm semi-double blooms in small clusters that hold their colour well are are heat tolerant. Flowers are attractively scented with a moderate ‘old rose’ fragrance. It is classified as a floribunda bush rose with a rounded habit. The variety is repeat flowering from late spring to the end of the summer. Foliage starts out reddish green and matures to a shiny green. Plants are vigorous and grow to a height of 90-120cm. www.rose.org, www.jonestherose.co.uk To check whether a ‘new’ rose is really a ‘new’, rose, check the International Rose Cultivar Registration Authority www.rosetofineschi.org
