New unified Eco-label

The unified Eco label ‘Fair Flowers Fair Plants’ (FFP) has finally been launched as a joint initiative between the European Union, the Horticultural Commodity Board and various environmental and non-governmental organizations. FFP aims to encourage the production and sale of sustainable production of flowers and plants. What does this mean for growers?

The FFP label allows a member to promote his business as being sensitive to international environmental and social issues. Products will be sold through affiliated FFP traders and retailers. The combination of environment requirements and social responsibilities will ensure that your business and its products have a ‘fair’ status that will be valued by the trade. The criteria for participation are: Environmental requirements: MPS-A/B or comparable scheme; Social requirements: MPS Socially Qualified or comparable scheme (satisfying the ICC requirements); Membership of the FFP; Prognosis of supply (production); Supply products with a unique code number and frequence. Traceability is essential to FFP membership and the origin and cultivation methods of a product remain traceable. This is important to the consumer. The affiliated traders and retailers used must also satisfy the requirements of the FFP label. The FFP label is only added to the product when it reaches the retailer.
