F1 Pelargonium ‘Black Magic’ becomes a series

New for 2002 by K. Sahin, Zaden BV are the varieties ‘Appleblossom’, ‘Rose’ and ‘Salmon’. The first ‘Black Magic’ variety, ‘Red’ was introduced in 2000. The leaves of this series are of an intense solid chocolate colour except for a narrow green margin and there is no green in the centre of the leaf. This very unusual leaf colour serves as a lovely contrast to the flower colour. ‘Red’ is a bright red colour, ‘Appleblossom’ is a floriferous variety. Early flowers are light pink but age to deep rose colour giving the effect of two-toned flowers. ‘Rose’ is an All American Selections winner for 2001 and produced rose flowers with white eye. The very dark leaves persist even under adverse conditions. ‘Salmon’ is highly floriferous and produces peach-salmon flowers that contrast with leaves that are slightly less dark with a broader green edge. This series flower as early as the ‘Vogue’ series. Given their unusual colour combination they provide good companion plants against green/silver and other coloured foliage. It is likely that this series will be sold by Domina. www.sahin.nl E-mail: Pbridgers@sahin.nl
