First Prize for the BeauSil™ Orchid

The BeauSil™Orchid refers to a series of new hybrids in 10 colours derived from species of Epidendrum, launched by Global Orchid Exchange Pty Ltd of Australia. On-going breeding and selection work is being made in Australia and Japan. The series won the Company 1st prize at EUROFLORA 2006 as the best new variety of Orchid commercialized for not more than 3 years. Compact plants with very distinct and attactive flowers made a big impact.

The name BeauSil™ stands for beautiful Silicium and has a double message. In the first place the hybridiazation and cultivation of these orchids benefitted from the application of BeauSil™. Si is known to have an enhancing and protective effect in the reproductive stages of plant growth. BeauSil™is a stabilized bio-available form of silicic acid applied as a foliar spray that is fully absorbed through the leaves and other plant surfaces. It has very big implications throughout agriculture, horticulture and gardening, but not only. If BioSil™ is good for plants, it is also good for bones, connective tissue, hair and nails, as per clinical trials.

This message was clear on the display stand complete with 4 look-a-like skeletons, marble statues and the patronage of FIRMO (Italian Foundation for Research into Bone Diseases). The Foundation’s slogan is ‘Break the Silence on Osteoporosis’ that promotes awareness and preventative treatment. Young plants were on sale at Euroflora in the Green Market and part of the takings were donated to the Foundation. A donation to the Foundation will continue into the future on every BeauSil™Orchid sold. Buyers of young plants were also able to profit by a free bottle of BeauSil™for consumption as a food supplement, and a competition offered a holiday in Australia for two for the best flowering plant grown from a young plant. At Euroflora, the competition had the patronage of the specialist magazine “Gardenia”.

Plants that have a constant and optimal internal level of Silicium are able to respond much better in natural ways to biotic and abiotic stress factors i.e. to insect pests and diseases, extremes of climate, poor water quality etc. In simple language it is an excellent insurance policy that you can give to plants (and to animals). N this respect, BeauSil™ enters the realm of biological production and safeguarding the environment because the use of fertilizers and plant chemicals is notably reduced. A great deal of research is currently being undertaken to understand the role of Silicium in plant metabolism, growth and development. It is a hot topic.
