According to the ZMP (Central Market and Statistical Agency, Bonn), retail sales value in Germany for cut-flowers and ornamental plants in 2005 was €8.6 billion. This divides into €3.65 billion for garden plants (including balcony plants, bedding, shrubs fruit and ornamental nursery-stock), €3.05 billion for cut-flowers (a 20% and declining market share) and €1.9 billion for ornamental indoor foliage and flowering pot plants. Pro-capita consumption is €104, a 2% increase over 2004 but not counting for inflation. According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the cultivation of cut-flowers and pot plants covers about 7.640ha, of which 2.547ha consists of greenhouse cultivation. The average greenhouse production area of an ornamental horticultural grower in 2004 was 2.640m2, and for outdoor production, 5.350m2. In addition nursery-stock production accounted for 25.520ha.
