The Ecke Company in the USA, famous for its Poinsettia breeding, has purchased the assets of Oglevee, best known for its Pelargonium breeding but also for their Begonias, double Impatiens, New Guineas, Streptocarpus and other bedding plants not forgetting Poinsettia. Oglevee has an excellent reputation for keeping its vegetative propagation of Pelargoniums clean and has about 25% market share of the US market. Ecke will acquire the assets, breeding and name of Oglevee but not its actual production facilities. They will lease Oglevee’s clean stock lab, and production facilities in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Mexico. The Oglevee name will remain as will the strong relationship that Oglevee has had with UK breeding company Floranova. Floranova Ltd is now owned by Jeff Colgrave which augers well for this specialist plant breeding Company. Previously the family sold the original Colgrave Seeds Company to the Ball Group. “GrowerTalks” www.growertalks.com |
