| The Dutch Anthura company has just completed the construction of a 1.5ha glasshouse unit near Kunming, Yunnan province of China. The long-lasting Anthurium cut-flowers and pot plants have been increasingly popular in China, no less because of the bright red spathes of many varieties. In vitro propapagation and selection of Anthurium is being undertaken by a number of propagators and growers in China but only quite recently has the quality of this young plant material started to improve. However as a market leader and breeder of Anthurium and other ornamental plants, Anthura is fully aware of the huge potential of the Chinese market. In order to reduce the cost of transport and keep the sustainable supply, the company decided to build this 1.5 ha greenhouse. Young plants suppliesd to China are 30cm tall and with rising energy it is now better to produce in China.
