The official report of the 2007 edition of the IPM-Essen (date) is optimistic with regard to the future of the ornamental horticultural sector, both in terms of consumption and in the buoyancy of international trade. About 27% of the estimated 57,800 visitors from 90 countries attended the IPM exhibition. The high international profile was confirmed by the 1,400 exhibitors that represented 42 countries. Dr. Joachim Henneke and Egon Galinnis emphasised the importance of the IPM-Essen as a major international driving force in the ornamental horticultural sector throughout the world, also embracing the other growing promotional platforms represented by the IPM-China and IPM-Dubai exhibitions. Never before have so many new ideas and creative marketing concepts been presented at the IPM-Essen concerning just about everything to do with greenery. Promoting the fundamental objective of inspiring customers to buy more flowers, ornamental plants and associated products. The range of products and services on display at the 2nd edition of the IPM-Dubai held 6-8 March 2007 was considerably greater than the previous edition. This was the principal reason for the increase in trade visitors that reached 2,484 from 50 countries, about two thirds up on the first edition. The number of exhibitors doubled to 200 companies from 24 countries. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum was enthusiastic about the event as representing an important milestone in the development of Dubai into a worldwide trading centre for flowers and plants. Egon Galinnis, director Messe-Essen, stated that the market is very positive with lots of potential; Dubai is becoming a major commercial hub at the intersection between the European, Asian and African continents. Michael Müller, Managing Director of the organizing office, Planetfair-Dubai, added that the demand for all horticultural products is rising at a breathtaking rate from cut flowers to the landscape design and construction of gardens and parks. Next edition of IPM-CHINA will take place at Chencun World of Flowers 1-3 December 2007. The next edition of IPM-ESSEN is scheduled for January 24 27, 2008 and will be opened by the German Federal Minister of Agriculture Horst Seehofer.
