Yoder Brothers sells chrysanthemum and asters product lines to Syngenta

October 29, 2008 - Barberton, Ohio.

In a move to further strengthen its position in the horticulture industry, Yoder Brothers, the world’s leading propagator of chrysanthemums, has agreed to sell a portion of its business to Syngenta Flowers, a worldwide leader in sustainable agriculture.

The acquisition includes all rights to Yoder’s pot and garden chrysanthemums, aster genetics and breeding programs, the Yoder brand name, as well as production assets less real-estate necessary to deliver current and new varieties to the market. The integration will involve approximately 150 employees joining Syngenta Flowers. The remaining Yoder entities will continue to do business under the Yoder name until July 2009, at which time, Yoder Brothers will transition to a new name that better reflects its remaining businesses.

Yoder will continue to sell and service Yoder-brand mums and asters from its customer service group and from Yoder Sales in the US and Canada.

Yoder Brothers will continue to produce and sell through its established network of distributors and Yoder Sales: Green Leaf Perennials™, Keepsake Azaleas®, TradeWinds Hibiscus, Cut Mums, Sun Parasol® Mandevilla, Poulsen Roses, Hydrangeas, Poinsettias, flowering products from Yoder Canada and brokered products.

“We are excited about this change. It allows us to transfer our mum and aster assets to Syngenta who can use them to build their market position in North America and Europe, while allowing us to keep a position in the product through our sales activity. More importantly, it allows the “NEW” Yoder to take a new direction in the market place. We look forward to being known as something other than the mum company,” says Bill Rasbach, President of Yoder Brothers Inc.

Yoder Brothers Inc. is a world leader in the horticulture industry, providing proprietary plant genetics to growers globally. Further information is available by contacting Christine Kelleher at 330.745.2143, ext. 2512.
