A survey between US growers agreed on some interventions to lower energy costs over winter. Install induced draft technology to heating system because 10-13% of the heat energy produced can be lost from the chimney; install double curtain systems for shading and heat retention; provide heat only where it is needed i.e. use bottom heat to maintain optimum root temperatures while allowing cooler air temperature; install energy efficient heating systems with duel/alternative fuel capabilities to take advantage of cheapest fuel prices together with environmental controm systems and properly calibrated censors; negotiate future fuel supplies to obtain discounts; reduce air-leakage; insulate greenhouse perimeter and install externam wind-breaks; use double-layer glazing materials; circulate air to avoid cold spots.
