Interspecific hybrid x Lobularia maritima causing a stirr

This new hybrid of Lobularia maritima (Sweet Alyssum or Filigrane comune, Brassicaceae) is named after its breeder Peter Wicki; ‘Peters Snow Princess’. It  won first prize for Kienzler at IPM2009 and forms part of the Proven Winners assortment. The variety also won the Innovert® Gold award for new plant innovations at the Salon Du Végétal 2009, displayed by Bertrand-flowers.

It is vegetatively propagated and is genetically much stronger and more vigorous than any seed-raised varieties of Lobularia and more resistant  It shows good tolerance to bad weather conditions; rain, wind and hail. The young plants raised from cuttings are extremely uniform The low, spreading plant is ideal for flowerbeds, hanging baskets and all manner of containers. Its clusters of flowers completely cover the plant and are produced profusely right through the summer in full sun until the first frosts. Importantly, the flowers do not go to seed, presumably because, being an interspecific hybrid, it is sterile. The large white flowers carry a strong scent of honey.  Ordinarily plants will start to flower from the end of March to early April.
