Dutch researcher Hans Kok at the IBC
(International Bulb Council) Centre for Applied Plant Research has found that
by giving Oriental lilies higher temperatures during the night than during the
day (negative DIF) the stems grower shorter and stronger and in the trials
there was also less leaf necrosis. As an example, a 10°C negative DIF resulted
in stem length being reduced by 14-21%. This goes against the assumed wisdom
where a positive DIF is recommended. FloraCulture International
