A delegation from Bejing, China has been visiting European cities to
learn more about landscape design and construction in preparation for the
Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Particular focus is also being given to
restoration schemes. The delegation visited various parks in the London Borough
of Bromely, with Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam and Rotterdam on the program.
Landscaping skills are in big demand in China and the Dutch chief architect of
Floriade has been commissioned to design and plant a 400ha botanical theme park
in Shanghai. The project is funded partly by the Chinese government and partly
by a mix from Chinese and European businesses. The Chinese are said to be
especially interested in water management. This same designer Niek Roozen, is
also working on other parks: 40ha at Wuhu and 90ha at Wuxi. Horticulture

The potential for collaborating with China in amenity landscaping is huge.
