French horticultural innovation leader VEGEPOLYS to introduce 3 innovations at Hortifair

Amsterdam, October 12th to 15th, 2010 - RAI Exhibition Centre

For its third participation in the tradeshow, VEGEPOLYS will introduce three innovative projects at its booth: Plantinov’Ser, Genêts, and PETAAL.
Located in the Loire Valley (France), VEGEPOLYS is a cluster devoted to vegetal innovation, to preserve the environment, biodiversity and health, which enjoys worldwide recognition for its concentration of businesses and research and learning centres, unmatched throughout Europe. This cluster was awarded the “world class competitiveness cluster” label by the French Government. VEGEPOLYS will present 3 of its innovative projects at Hortifair this year to showcase its network, its players and its scope.
The Plantinov’Ser project, led by the inter-professional technical centre for fruits and vegetables (CTIFL) in Carquefou (near Nantes) and the regional horticultural office (BHR) in Angers, can help improve greenhouse energy-saving techniques in the horticultural and market garden sectors: developing energy-saving ducts, seeking appropriate vegetal material, and using professional pilot sites to validate equipment and strategies demonstrating their technical/economic worth during the experimentation phase.
The Genêts project is an international variety innovation project which consists in creating new varieties of broom (in shape and colour). Supported by the Eurogeni business interest group (GIE Eurogeni) in Beaufort-en-Vallée, it is intended for local authorities landscapes (brooms are plants that can thrive in poor, depleted soil like city soil, flower boxes, industrial areas, etc), as well as in the home gardener and flower pots market.
The PEETAL project (Environmental Protection and Alignment Tree Technology), led by the Koppert Company in Cavaillon, aims for its part to protect plane trees in Mediterranean basin countries from an insect known as the “lace bug”. Plane trees are highly useful in providing shade throughout countries exposed to substantial sunlight. The project’s objective is to move from chemical fighting to organic protection for plane trees, against this destructive insect that causes leaf decolouration and early defoliation.

VEGEPOLYS will be delighted to welcome you in their booth,
