| New CarbonLite pots from Jiffy | |
| This new biodegradable pot will be launched at the Hortifair 2010 exhibition. The pots are made primarily from a variety of plant starches with some polypropylene. Tests have demonstrated that the new pots are perfectly suited to all the ordinary nursery operations including mechanical handling and are said to be no weaker in this respect to ordinary plastic pots. The outside surface is suitable for 4-colour printing. Jiffy intends to manufacture a basic range of commonly used pot and tray sizes in this material but will also offer tailor made sizes on request, presumably on the basis of certain minimum order quantities. CarbonLite products will be more expensive than equivalent plastic containers but the Company claims that consumer preference will more than make up for the difference.
