Hibiscus: Integrated Pest Management

(Eretmocerus spp. against whiteflies, Aphidius colemani for aphids and Neoseiulus californicus for mites). Unfortnately it has proved too difficult to manage all three beneficial insect populations all at once, although at all times mite control with N. californicus was excellent. An IPM approach proved more appropriate, using Marathon as an insecticide at the reccommended rate of application. This effectively controlled mealybugs, whiteflies and aphids while Neoseilus californicus not only survived the treatment but also reproduced well thus controlling mites. The predator N. persimilis is considered less resistant to Marathon. "GrowerTalks" www.growertalks.com
