Long-Life Hibiscus

Graff Breeding A/S, a sister Company of Graff Kristensen A/S has introduced a new series of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis under the title of ‘Long-Life’ Hibiscus. The flowers of these varieties are described as having a duration on the plant of 3-6 days. The colourful buds open slowly and plants flower continuously. Variety ‘Boreas’ produces large white flowers with red-purple centres. The large lime-green buds that open over a period of about 6 days add to the ornamental characteristics. ‘Adonis’ produces soft pink flowers while ‘Dione’ has red-orange flowers.

Other important features of the ‘Long-Life’ series are described as an improved branching habit with good green foliage. All these varieties produce colourful buds held above the leaves. ‘Athena’ produces bright yellow flowers, ‘Ceres’ is a good strong orange and ‘Volcano’ is deep red.

The breeder, Marianne Gellert Møller, has been improving the ornamental characteristics of Hibiscus by focusing also on development of the buds. The newest variety is ‘Arion’ produces large conspicious buds that open slowly over a period of 10-12 days while the open flowers last 2-3 days. This variety is the first of a new series.

The Company is working in partnership with Knud Jepsen and Greenmark A/S. Plants are also available from FloraHolland auction in 12 and 21 cm pots. For further information: Poul Graff, Email: poul@graff-breeding.com Marianne Gellert Møller, Email: marianne@graff-breeding.com www.graff-breeding.com
