209) Frozen Gel increasingly popular with Dutch flower exporters

The product ‘Flower Ice’ from Cold & Fresh International BV is proving its worth with flower exporters. It consists of six flexible cushions filled with a gel. After freezing, the frozen gel releases coldness to the environment in a direct, but slow and long-lasting way. The product is light and cannot freeze thus reducing freight costs and any potential frost damage. The unique non-woven fleece of the cushions forms an insulation layer allowing the product to be laid directly on top of the flowers. Flower Ice elements are flexible even when frozen and can closely follow the shape of flowers in a box. It will remain firmly in position during transport reducing any mechanical damage. Temperature variations during transport, caused for example by reloading on platforms, delays or short-term storage without cooling are minimised. It thus enhances quality preservation.
