Palms of the Italian Riviera and the Mediterranean area under history, culture, religion and popular tradition
For three days, the Mediterranean palms will be the focus of an international event of great scientific and cultural importance. Research programs for the improvement and valorisation of date palms in the mediterranean area will be presented. Scientists and representants of institutions from Algeria, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Libia, Morocco, Spain, and Tunisia will show the results of their latest studies performed within international research projects of cooperation.
Once again, the Biennial Conference on Palms will give us the opportunity of having un update on palm pest control and prevention; particular attention will be also given to biomechanics, ethnobotany and cultivation techniques.
An exhibition dedicated to the weaving tradition, intended both for religious purpose and every-day use, will be held during the meeting. Practical demonstrations of traditional weaving will be given by artists from different regions.
In order to allow cultural exchanges between participats -that is one of the conference goals-, at the end of each day, people attending the conference will be given the opportunity of tasting typical food from the various Mediterranean countries represented in the meeting.
