Software developed by the Danish Company Brandsoft enables growers to print just about everything they could want on a single tag-label, thus avoiding great waste in using more than one label and cost. These tag-labels are ideal for out door Nursery-stock plants where the label is attached to the plant. The software enables the label to carry a colour photograph of the plant and/or the flower; the name of the species/variety plus a short description; particular characteristics such as dimensions, period of flowering, planting position; bar-code printed in 2 positions; name of the grower/Nursery and logo; name and logo of the wholesaler/retailer; sales price to the final consumer. Using an Oki laser printer, 150 labels can be printed per minute with no loss of quality. Such labels constitute considerable added value to the plant, especially during the dormant period when shrubs have no leaves or flowers and look uninviting. The added value is particularly important for garden centres, supermarkets where consumers are offered self-service facilities and are in direct contact with the plants. The label material is resistant and the printing will last12 months at least. The product won a new product award at the recent Glee exhibition.
