Cefane is South African Plant Breeding enterprise, located in the Eastern Cape Province. Breeders are evaluating the impressive genetic diversity in the South African flora that can be utilised in breeding new or improved ornamental crops. The location is also ideal because breeding work undertaken simultaneously in Europe and South Africa can benefit from 2 summer seasons in the one year which means year round breeding and selection. The Company, established 2 years ago, undertakes breeding on contract; mainly with perennials, flowering pot plants, succulents and bulb flower crops to date. New clients are first offered a trial contract period for a full variety evaluation and detailed report, including technical-cultural information. If results look promising, the client establishes some form of joint venture with Celane together with a more substantial economic investment for further breeding and market development. Currently, the Company is working with partners from Germany, Denmark and Japan. Contact Research and Marketing Manager, Linda Noack. E-mail: linda@cefane.co.za www.cefane.co.za |
