New Poinsettia varieties from Dümmen

'Marble' and 'Apricot' are new additions to Dümmen's 'Premium' Poinsettia series for 2003 and 'Premium' Jingle (variable red and white) will be available in small trial quantities for 2004. 'Lipstick' is a selection of 'Premium' Pink where the bracts have a fine margin of a darker pink. This series is naturally compact and if grown over a long cycle it requires little or no Cycocel. It does not like high temperatures and fast forcing. A few trendy varieties on display were: 'Avangarde' (pink and white), 'Limelight' and 'Joker' (chimeras) both with variegated leaves, light and dark green. The former variety has white bracts and the latter has white spots on red bracts. According to Tobias Dümmen, this novelty market is increasing. Red coloured varieties retain 70% of the market, white is increasing while pink is on the decline giving space to novelty varieties. According to the IPM, some 32 million poisettias were sold in Germany in the 2002 season, of which 27 million were grown on German Nurseries. Peter Maile. Fax 0773 423504, E-mail: direzione@redfox.it
