Growing a good healthy lawn is not difficult if you choose
the right turf species for your location and follow proper mowing, fertilizing
and irrigation procedures. The "UC Guide to Healthy Lawns" provides all
the information needed to grow and maintain healthy lawns in California. These
guidelines also generally apply to parks, playing fields and other turf areas
and can be extended to other regions of the world with similar climatic conditions.
A vigorously growing turf resists pest damage and weed invasion. Improper irrigation
and/or choice of turf species are at the root of most problems. Turf can also
be managed with very little application of pesticides if appropriate guidelines
