GHIS — Greenhouse Integrated System

The GHIS project was presented at the Flormart-Miflor Exhibition at Padova (22-24 February 2002). The objective of this EU backed project is to create a closed greenhouse system where all the production parameters are integrated and managed by a single modular control system. Remote control of the automatic system through internet or mobile telephone is also featured. Of particular significance is flexibility; a grower can ‘plug-in’ new production equipment (heating or irrigation plant ecc.) as his production area expands. The ‘integrated’ system will automatically acknowledge the new equipment inserted and will immediately take on its management. Such a system is simple to install and promises to save up to 20-30% of the cost of existing greenhouse control systems. Further cost savings will be made by using renewable energy sources and more efficient production equipment that will also impact lesss on the environment. The final prototype will be ready for trialing in October 2003 when commercialization will start in the Mediterranean regions and North Europe: Unindustria Padova. Sandro Sanseverinati.
