The quality testing procedure for the Benary Seed Company is being changed to include actual plug tests as well as routine laboratory germination tests. Impatiens wall. ‘Candy®, Bellis, Helianthus ‘Pacino’, fibrous Begonia are already being tested in plug trays under production conditions. This procedure was started in January 2002, for tuberous Begonia and in April 2002, Viola wittrockiana ‘Fancy’ and ‘Fama® series will be added. These practice-relevant procedures provide growers with a measure of quality expressed as (TP - % of transplantable plugs). Upon completion of the extensive testing done with Viola , a guaranteed minimum TP value will be provided in time for the new sales period for the Viola ‘Fancy’® and ‘Fama’® series, both for raw and primed seed.
