Germans bought more outdoor and less indoor plants in 2012

The German trade organisation BGI has studied the German market of flowers and plants and produced a report. From the study can be learned that the overall turn-over of  flowers and plants in 2012 was slightly better than 2011, but there were differences between the product groups.

The figures until September last year show that Germans spent in 2012 an average of € 106 on flowers and plants, which is 1% more than in 2011. The expenditure is the highest since 2008, the year before the financial crisis. Despite the overall growth, the market of cut flower reduced by 1%. The demand for indoor plants went even more down (by 4%). Especially for flowering indoor plants 2012 was a hard year; the turnover of this group decreased by 6%. The sales of outdoor plants increased in 2012. This group has a share of 46% in the total sales of flowers and plants in Germany.
