World’s biggest flower garden created in Dubai | |
Emirate city-state Dubai has managed to realize another monumental construction project, but this time it isn’t anything like the world’s largest skyscraper or an artificial palm island. The Middle Eastern desert city's latest mega-project is a 72,000 square meter flower garden instead!
More than 45 million flowers were allegedly used for the massive attraction, billed the ‘Dubai Miracle Garden’. Four kilometers of flower-decked pathways wind through landscape designs of every shape and sort. The garden’s floral perimeter, with a circumference of 1 kilometer, is currently contesting for an official Guinness World Record. The Miracle Garden features lots of flowers which have been planted in the Gulf region for the first time, the developers from Akar Landscaping and Agriculture Co. say. We wanted to “demonstrate that it’s possible to green the desert through judicious re-use of waste water, through drip irrigation”, a project manager aptly comments. The gardens are currently open to visitors but have yet to be totally completed, however. A second development phase in mid-2013 will add amenities like restaurants and shops as well as plant nurseries. During the summer months (June to September), when temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 F) in the UAE, the garden will be closed to the public.
