Sunlight to Electricity

Dr. Alvin M. Marks at the Advanced Research Development Inc., USA, has developed a new solar film technology called ‘Lumeloid’ that provides extremely low-cost and efficient (72%) convertion of light to electric energy (current semi-conductor solar cell technology is only 33% efficient by comparison). The ‘Lumeloid’ solar film is made up of a photovoltaic polarized film laminated to micoelectronic circuitry with a Mylar film for structural backing. The product looks like a thin gray vinyl film 0.3 microns thick. The thin composite film made from low cost, non toxic polmer materials can be rolled out over any flat surface such as roofs and could find immediate and very effective utilization in horticultural production Nurseries. The cost of energy using this new film could be as low as one eighth that of electricity generation from fossil fuels. Growers are advised to keep abreast of this development www.ardev.com
